Makoto learned different techniques when he was an art student. Creating Venetian masks is one of those.

In 2013 he started creating masks again in the occasion of an art competition with the theme: “homologation and identity”. The face is the part that shows a strong identity of the person, but it gets homologation if the person has a white face. At the same time it creates a strong identity by installing many white masks together.

Makoto also uses Washi paper (traditional Japanese paper). With this type of paper, Makoto expresses the integration between the Venetian technique and the Japanese material, the two traditional cultures, it the fusion of West and Far East.
